Broome to Eighty Mile Beach (Friday 7th May 2010)

Travel day. Broome to Eighty Mile Beach 365km.
Got up slowly and reluctantly packed up to leave Broome. 9.15am I noticed I'd left car ignition turned on 'accessories' so I tried to start the car to make sure all was OK and what do you know I'd flattened the battery. Ooops. My analysis of the whole situation was the battery was on it's way out anyway! (Really what would I know). Pete had the bonnet up on the car while we waited for the WA version of RACV to show up and Elizabeth peered into the engine and added "Oh! the power steering fluid looks a bit low Dad". Killed time chatting to the Mentone Melbournians. Waited until 11.30 before help arrived just to be told the battery was stuffed and we needed to by a new one. After buying a new battery and getting fuel we were finally on the road at 11.50am
We stopped for lunch at 1.30pm and again at 2.30pm to refuel car using jerry cans. Finally reached the Eighty Mile Beach Caravan Park turn off at 4pm. The caravan park was about 10km in from the highway on a unsealed road. Over a small hill in the road and on the other side a caravan park appeared in the middle of nowhere and ocean as far as the eye can see. It was a quirky place. Once we were set up we walked along the beach and collected sea shells until it got dark. We had entertainment that night. Get Pete to tell you the story of the man and the hot tub.
