Kununurra to Broome (Wednesday 28th April 2010)

Travel day.
Kununurra to Broome. Distance: 1046km.
On the road 6.10am Drove past ever changing landscape and several entrances to cattle stations ( Mabel Downs, Alice Downs and Margaret River Station), in the middle of no where. You know they are there only because of the big white painted wrought iron signs at the entrances to red dirt roads that disappear into the distance.
After 4hrs of driving arrived at Halls Creek, 10.15am for fuel and toilet stop. Back on the road after just 15mins. Along the way we drove past the Tanami Track entrance. By 12noon we had 6hrs of driving under our belt and only 6 more to go! The road was long and never-ending. Pete and I shared the driving. Every 2hrs we swapped. Finally reached Fitzroy Crossing at 1.15pm Crossed over Fitzroy River.
We stopped here for half an hour to have lunch sourced from our trusty fridge then back on the road. Oh my gosh, are we ever gonna make it? The landscape is really beautiful. It changes so often from km to km. You feel as if you're a million miles from anywhere.
Finally reached the Derby/Broome intersection at 4pm. Watched another amazing sunset.
Drove into Broome in the dark. Checked into Cable Beach Caravan Park at 6pm. That was the longest drive on earth and we made it! Set up and fell into bed.
