Tom Price to Coral Bay (Monday 10th May 2010)

Travel day. 610km
On the road 9.15am and headed straight to Coles to restock fridge. Spent about 20mins on phone trying to arrange accommodation in Coral Bay as my preferred caravan park was totally booked until late in the week. Back on the road 10.10am and kept driving until we stopped for lunch at 1.40pm. Back on the road at 2pm and turned onto the North West Coastal Hwy (Nanutarra Roadhouse) at 2.45pm. Drove over the Royal Flying Doctor Airstrip which is actually the road we are driving on. In remote areas like this the road is the airstrip. It is defined by 5 thick parallel white stripes painted across the road to indicate the start of the airstrip and again at the end of the airstrip. Further down the road we came across a wedged tail eagle feasting on a kangaroo carcass. It flew off into a nearby tree as we got closer in the car but was happy enough for me to walk up to it and photograph it. They are an impressive sight out in the wild.
We are now in the part of Western Australia known as 'The Gascoyne'. WA is sooo big.
Stopped to refuel car using jerry cans at 4pm. Arrived into Coral Bay 5pm.
