You do feel like you've landed on the moon.
Good Friday (2nd April)
Today was spent sight seeing. First we went to the Umoon Opal Mine & Museum. We learnt all about the Inland Sea that Coober Pedy was once part of and the museum had amazing fossils of prehistoric looking creatures that once roamed the sea. The lady behind the opal counter explained all about the different types of opals and the girls were keen to spend their pocket money here but we said $4,000 was a bit too much money. Expensive taste.
Next we did a self-guided tour at the Old Timers Mine. We had a great time in this underground mine. Attached to the underground mine was the underground house which had a family living in it up until recently and they had two girls Emilia and Elizabeth's age. The girls couldn't imagine living underground. We watched the opal mining machinery display and Elizabeth had a turn at sending a rock up the 'blower'. The girls did some 'Noodling' in the noodling pit and collected some pretty coloured stones. Here they finally got to buy themselves some opal earrings. At 3pm we sat in on Good Friday Mass at St Peter & Paul's Catholic Underground Church. Our last drive for the day was along a corrugated road to see The Breakaways, The Castle and the Dog Fence. We thought our car was going to rattle pieces but made it back in one piece.
