Wilpena Pound (Tuesday 30th March to Thursday 1st April 2010)

Have had a great time here. Perfect weather. Have met some lovely people.Walking trails we went on had the most beautiful scenery and once you reached the lookouts the views were spectacular. Even though I've already taken a million photo's I
don't think they'll do these places justice. The more rough and
rugged and dangerous the hike the better in Elizabeth's opinion. No 'woossie' walking trails for her! Emilia on the other hand always takes the safer option, a bit like her mother! I am really trying to be brave. The 'Sacred Canyon Walk' was the girls favourite walk. It was rough at times. Walking along the old river bed with huge River Red Gum's towering overhead was easy, maybe because we were distracted by the beauty of the place. The highlight was finding the Aboriginal rock engravings on the rock walls above the rock pools. Next we went and took photo's with a 'Black Boy' tree which only grows 1cm every year. this tree was over 100 years old.

WEDNESDAY
Had a sleep in this morning and planned the day over a lazy, relaxed breakfast. Walked the 'Wangara Trail'. It led to spectacular views of Wilpena Pound. In the middle of no-where came across a homestead from the pioneering days and more Aboriginal history. The wild mountain goats and kangaroo's also kept us entertained. The people camping next to us invited us for a night around the campfire with them. The girls got to toast marshmallows. The girls were very excited about this. We went to bed way too late as tomorrow we're off to Coober Pedy and alarm is set for 6am!.
